Contact is the second image in a series of four illustrations inspired by the novel Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov. This darkly comedic story of a Ukrainian writer who unwittingly becomes involved with the mafia has been re-imagined from the perspective of his pet penguin, Misha. Misha starts as a refugee from a bankrupt Kiev zoo, gradually develops an adoptive family, and falls seriously ill. With the novel's backdrop of murder and corruption, Misha is a vulnerable and humanising element.
The down-and-out writer, Viktor, shares a moment of consolation with his pet penguin, Misha, who is suffering in the relative heat of the Kiev winter. A previously closed-off character, Viktor develops a real friendship with his displaced pet.
This print is available in A4 size (21x29.5 cm). This high-quality digital print has a slight texture, similar to fine watercolour paper.
